Nutrients that may be difficult to find in a vegan diet
As a vegan or even a vegetarian, you are cutting out certain foods from your diet. This means that you need to find other sources for the nutrients found in the foods you don’t eat.
For example, you’re not eating meat. What important nutrients are found in meat?
- Vitamin B12
Another example is that you’re not eating fish. What vital nutrients are found in fish?
- Omega 3

Regarding vitamin B12, this is one of the only nutrients found in animal products that cannot be found in a vegan diet naturally.
Notice I wrote naturally.
This is because there are many vegan foods that are fortified with B12 to help vegans get this crucial vitamin. Examples include:
- Plant-based milk

- Plant-based meat products
According to Healthline, as a vegan, if you don’t supplement with vitamin B12, you’re at a high risk of becoming deficient in this vitamin.
There are many vegan protein sources so this is a non-concern.

This doesn’t mean that if you eat a tomato, you’ll get enough protein for the day. However, you will get some protein out of it.

People have a major misconception that vegans are lacking all the major nutrients. This is only partially true. If you ensure your diet is rich in the vital nutrients you need, you’ll do just fine and a multivitamin on the side will keep you balanced.
However, if you eat junk food all day, whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or neither, you won’t be getting most of your necessary nutrients.

Omega 3 is only found in the sea, meaning fish and seaweed. Therefore, you don’t need to eat fish to get omega 3.
